Community guidelines and network policies for a safe and welcoming environment

📜 Important: By connecting to GreekIRC, you agree to abide by these rules. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse for violations.

📋 General Network Rules

These rules apply to all users across the entire GreekIRC network:

Be Respectful

Treat all users with respect and courtesy. Harassment, hate speech, discrimination, or threatening behavior will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Personal attacks or insults
  • Racial, ethnic, or religious slurs
  • Sexist or homophobic remarks
  • Threats of violence or harm
  • Stalking or persistent harassment

Penalty: Warning → Kick → Temporary Ban → Permanent Ban

Age Requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use GreekIRC. Some channels may have higher age requirements (16+, 18+). Users found to be underage will be removed.

Penalty: Immediate network ban

No Spam or Flooding

Spamming or flooding channels/private messages is prohibited. This includes:

  • Excessive messages in a short time period
  • Repeating the same message multiple times
  • Unsolicited advertising or promotion
  • Mass messaging multiple users
  • ASCII art or large text blocks without permission

Penalty: Warning → Kick → Temporary Ban → Permanent Ban

Privacy & Personal Information

Respect the privacy of others. Do not share personal information without consent:

  • No doxxing (sharing real-life information)
  • No sharing private conversations
  • No attempting to obtain personal information
  • No sharing passwords or credentials

Penalty: Warning → Temporary Ban → Permanent Ban

Follow Channel Rules

Each channel may have its own specific rules. Channel operators have the right to enforce additional rules within their channels, provided they don't conflict with network rules.

Examples: Topic restrictions, language requirements, no links policy, etc.

Penalty: Channel-level kick/ban at operator discretion

Technical Abuse

Any attempt to disrupt network operations or compromise security is strictly forbidden:

  • No unauthorized bots or scripts
  • No flooding or DDoS attacks
  • No attempts to exploit server vulnerabilities
  • No impersonation of network staff
  • No cloning (multiple connections from same user)

Penalty: Immediate network ban (permanent for serious offenses)

Illegal Activities

Using GreekIRC for illegal activities is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Distribution of malicious software
  • Sharing copyrighted material without permission
  • Planning or coordinating illegal acts
  • Trading illegal goods or services

Penalty: Immediate permanent ban and report to authorities if warranted

Appropriate Content

While we support free expression, some content is not appropriate:

  • No excessive profanity or vulgarity
  • No sexually explicit content in public channels
  • No graphic or disturbing content
  • Mark NSFW channels appropriately (+s mode, clear topic warning)

Penalty: Warning → Kick → Temporary Ban

Appeals Process

If you believe you've been unfairly punished, you may appeal:

  1. Join #help and speak with an IRC operator
  2. Send an email to appeals@greekirc.net
  3. Include your nickname, the reason for your ban, and why you believe it's unjust
  4. Appeals are typically reviewed within 48-72 hours

📺 Channel-Specific Guidelines

For Channel Operators

  • Post clear rules in your channel topic
  • Apply rules fairly and consistently
  • Don't ban users without warning (except for spam/bots)
  • Document serious bans for network staff review
  • Respect network authority - staff can override channel ops

For Channel Users

  • Read the channel topic upon joining
  • Respect channel operators and their decisions
  • Take disputes to private messages
  • If you feel mistreated, contact network staff in #help

🔒 Privacy Policy

Data We Collect

  • IP Address: Logged for security and ban enforcement
  • Connection Timestamp: When you connect to the network
  • Nickname: Your chosen IRC nickname
  • User Agent: For web chat users only

How We Use Your Data

  • Enforce network rules and security
  • Prevent abuse and investigate violations
  • Generate anonymous usage statistics
  • Respond to valid legal requests

Data Retention

  • IP addresses are retained for 90 days
  • Connection logs are retained for 30 days
  • Ban records are retained permanently

Your Rights

  • Request a copy of your personal data
  • Request deletion of your data (where legally required)
  • Opt-out of analytics (web chat only)

Note: GreekIRC does not sell user data to third parties.

  • Modify these rules at any time
  • Remove users for any reason
  • Monitor public channels for rule enforcement
  • Cooperate with law enforcement when required

Users connect at their own risk. GreekIRC is not responsible for user-generated content or interactions.
